How to use a VPN to watch NFL games

The NFL playoffs are here and while you don’t have to figure out how to live stream out-of-market games any more, you still need a VPN to unblock streaming apps on filtered Wi-Fi networks at work, school, and other places.

  1. Get ExpressVPN
  2. Connect to a server where the broadcast is available. For example, Americans should connect to a U.S. server to stream games on Peacock or YouTube TV, while Aussies need an Australian server to watch the free NFL games on 7plus.
  3. Cheer your team to the Super Bowl!

Why ExpressVPN is the best VPN for NFL games

To be considered great, a football team must dominate all three phases of the game: offense, defense, and special teams. The same principle applies to choosing the best VPN for streaming NFL games. 1. Since there wasn’t a single mention of the Steelers in the above recap of week 1 (they are from Pittsburgh For any newcomers in the house) it seems reasonable to not mention them, I suppose. They won a tough game in Buffalo against the Bills and have, arguably, the toughest schedule in nthe NFL this season. I just want to go on record as suggesting you ain’t seen nothing yet. Just sayin’.

  2. I’ve always loved the game of football itself, but never ever liked the NFL as an organization.
I have a hard time wrapping my head around & understanding the logic behind letting international customers watch most of the games live but not here in the US where the frigging game originated!
I tell ya it’s unamerican & the NFL should be held accountable!
Think I’ll start a movement to call out the NFL for treating US citizens this way, cause if it wasn’t for us fans here in the US the NFL wouldn’t exist!

  3. Thank you guys for this. Really hoping we’ll see the Saints make it to the SB this year. Drew deserves it!

  4. Hi!

I signed on yesterday and tried to get DAZN Canada, but unfortunately it didn’t work as it showed me an error when trying to sign in to DAZN. I looked up the error online on reddit and someone suggested trying from Vancouver but that didn’t work.
I tried going to the NFL game pass mexico site but it appeared to be blocked.

Has Dazn/NFL blocked Express VPN? if not, are there other ways for me to work this out?

    Thanks,

  5. Increase the volume up on the sportcasters that are calling the Packers vs. Vikings game. On TV, the (faux) volume of the stand fans/white noise is louder thus we can’t clearly hear the calls. Thank you.

  6. Is there a way to do it without using international game pass? I really just want to watch one team so I don’t want to pay that much when I could possibly do it with a cheaper subscription.

  7. I have trying to figure out how to watch the Colts for the past 2 years I have lived in Montana. The only teams that they ever play here are Seattle, Denver, Green Bay, Minnesota, and the nationally televised games. I’ve only gotten to watch 2 Colts games live in 2 years and one of the times I was actually in Texas. I’ve tried the VPN on my phone, Xbox one, laptop, and Roku Smart TV. All trying to use the NFL app. And I’ve also tried free trials of Sling, Fubo, YouTube, and just about anything else on all my devices and even being connected to the VPN it still only offers me the same teams/games. What would you recommend I try? And what location would be best for me to try and connect to? Thanks

  8. Hi Mike,

You will need to connect to a server location where Packers games aren’t blacked out. In the past, connecting to the nearest non-Wisconsin location has delivered the best results.

  9. Hi Nicki,

From the ExpressVPN app, click on the bar that indicates your current location. You can then select a non-U.S. location to connect to.

  10. Hi,
I am living in the Detroit Area, have PS Vue and want to watch every Packers game.
Is it possible via ExpressVPN e.g. via a virtual server that is located in Wisconsin?
    Thanks a lot.
    Mike

  11. Hi Elena,

The international version of NFL Game Pass includes Game in 40′ highlights for all games (and five minute highlights if you’re really in a hurry!).

Simply connect to a non-U.S. location and visit https://www.nflgamepass.com

  12. If I purchase NFL Game pass with a US address CC will it let me access the International version?
Everyone says get the International version,,,,,it doesn’t matter what your Bank / CC billing address is ?

  13. Hi, I want to purchase the game pass essential from Spain. Can I watch the Game in 40 min of all games? Including the Game in 40 min of the playoffs? Thanks.

  14. Quick Question – Once I sign up for the International Game Pass, do I need to VPN everytime I want to use it? Or can i just use my login and get access?

I would love to use the NFL APP on the Apple TV to navigate the games but not sure if I need to VPN in everytime in order to watch it.

  15. Hi Kevin,

If you’re on Windows, please try watching on Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge. If you’re on Mac, please try watching on Safari.

  16. I have expressvpn. I connected to Thailand and went to gamepass and started a trail for their top tier package. But whenever i go to watch the videos it just sits ad loading with the dots.

I’ve cleared my browser cookies and histrory, I’ve downloaded the browser extension, I tried both chrome and firefox, i updated flash…but still no go….Can you help me figure this out?

  17. Hi Brent,

Try watching through the international version of NFL Game Pass. Simply connect to a non-U.S. location (you can get further advice by contacting Support: https://www.expressvpn.com/support/#open-chat) and purchase the Game Pass. This will give you access to every Falcons game, including the preseason and postseason, all the way up to the Super Bowl.

How are you feeling about the season? We’re expecting a bounce-back campaign for Atlanta after last year!

  18. hello, please help, i live in PA and i would like to watch my favorite team the atlanta falcons all year long including pre-season games. The only games that ever show in my area are the dam eagles and giants, what do i need to do to watch my falcons live??

  19. I just moved from NY to Florida and want to stream and watch my NY Jets football games on my tv not a mobile device. I do not want to get satelite service just to get nfl sunday ticket. Do you have a solution that will work for me that is not too complicated? i have very good internet speeds
    Thanks

  20. Hi Michael,

Please try connecting to a U.S. server location and logging into your account. Domestic versions of NFL Game Pass include the All-22 Coaches Film. This feature may not be available to certain versions of the international Game Pass.

  21. Hello, I was bombed by NFL Game Pass that I can no longer get Game Pass in 2019 from Panama Central America where I live. I cover the Miami Dolphins for a living, so this puts me in a bind. I used the coaches cam on Game Pass regularly, so getting access to it , and the games is paramount to me smiling again. How can I get my former access back through your VPN? Just purchase, download, and then resign up for Game Pass? Thanks in advance.

  22. Still can’t figure out why Daniel Jones went sixth. But y’all watch when he leads Big Blue to the playoffs lol

  23. I live in Williamsburg, VA. I have Direct TV. I want to see the Atlanta Falcons (in real time) but I am blocked except for regularly scheduled nationally televised games, how can I get around this block?

  24. Hi Luke,

Did you purchase the U.S. Game Pass or the international Game Pass?

If you’re using the international Game Pass, you should have no problem watching the games. Please try connecting to a non-U.S. VPN location before watching one of the games.

If you bought the U.S. Game Pass, you won’t be able to watch any of the games live. However, you can use Sling or any of the other services mentioned above. They all come with a free trial.

  25. I am going to be in Acapulco during the Chiefs playoff game. I have the NFL game day pass but have not had any luck making it work in the past. What do I need to do to see this game?

  26. Hi Brian,

For best results, please try turning off your mobile location. You may also want to try connecting to a server location that’s closer to the game broadcast.

  27. I am also going to try this. I connected to a local VPN, but the yahoo sports app still says the game is not available in my location. Does that have to do with my phone GPS? Or is it because the game doesn’t start until tomorrow?

  28. Youtube will allow three changes of address then you just erase your account and sign in again and you will get three more address changes This is the way I received the NFL this year. I now better ways now! thanks for the ideas

  29. My husband is an avid Steelers fan. We live in Virginia so are subjected to plenty of blackouts on the season games. We have a full cable package on Comcast so are not limited by that source. We don’t have a smart TV but do have Samsung S9 phones on Verizon. What is our best option to see the games live?

  30. Hi Ken,

Which streaming method are you using? If you’re using the international version of NFL Game Pass, you will have access to all games and won’t face blackouts. If you’re using a domestic stream, try connecting to a non-Wisconsin location before you watch a game.

For any further issues, please contact Support: https://www.expressvpn.com/support/#open-chat

    p.s. Go Pack Go! 😉

  31. I have now become a little confused. I am in NJ and only want to watch the Packers’ games. How hard is it to / how do you / change-over to an in-market TV station for Wisconsin? THX in advance.

  32. Hi,

I want to watch Thursday Night Football. Are the games included in every Game Pass package? Are there blackouts?

  33. Hi Gil,

You can try NFL Game Pass’s “Follow Your Team” package. For the best prices, connect to a VPN location in Asia and then purchase/access the international Game Pass. Get the “Follow Your Team” package and select the Eagles. If you need guidance on which locations to use, please speak to Support: https://www.expressvpn.com/support/#open-chat

  34. Just signed up for game pass via Germany server. Looks like I’m good to go with streaming live. Question: will I nerd to install expressvpn at the router level to use the NFL app on my Xbox one now that my international account is active? Like, will it black out a game if it knows my Xbox is stateside?

  35. I live in Los Angeles and I only want to watch the Philadelphia Eagles. How do I watch eagles game live from LA?

  36. Hi Zeke,

For Game Pass, connect to a VPN location in Asia and then purchase/access the international Game Pass. If you only want to follow the Dolphins, you can select the “Follow Your Team” package and save some money. If you need guidance on which locations to use, please speak to Support: https://www.expressvpn.com/support/#open-chat

Another option to check out is NFL Sunday Ticket. DirecTV offers NFL Sunday Ticket as a standalone product, but you’ll need to prove that your address doesn’t support DirecTV or that you live in a multi-unit residence (like an apartment).

    Hope that helps!

  37. I live in Philly but want to watch the Dolphins. Can I do that with Gamepass? What other options are there?

  38. Hello,

I’m from Germany and would like to watch all of the NFL games. Can I access the Gamepass with all of the live games from Germany?

    Thanks,
    Robert

  39. Hi Celeste,

Which streaming package are you using? Please try connecting to a location where Redskins games are part of the in-market coverage e.g. the Washington DC locations.

  40. Want to watch the Washington Redskins from Florida, however, it is out-of-market . I downloaded ExpressVPN. Since it’s out-of-market, I have to select a Location that is not in the US, correct? I selected Canada based on the speed test. Is that correct? Now, what is the next step? Thank you.

  41. Hi Brooke,

Outside of DAZN, you can watch the games for free on mobile by downloading the NFL Mobile app or the Yahoo Sports app. Be sure to connect to a U.S. location before watching.

Otherwise, you can connect to an overseas location to purchase the international game pass. Good locations to try are Australia, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.

  42. Hi there,

I want to know more about watching NFL game pass from Canada. Any other options besides DAZN? What’s the game pass price?

    Thanks

  43. Hi Jimmy,

Some content and stream providers have started to block content based on the geolocation of users. The ExpressVPN browser extension prevents your browser from revealing your location and can help you access streams with privacy, no matter where you are.

Using the browser extension is not necessary for many sites, but for others, this will ensure an interruption-free streaming experience.

  44. Why is it necessary to use the Browser extension when watching a game? I have been using Express VPN without the Browser extension on my computer for some time now, am I exposing my location by doing so??

  45. Hi Garrett,

Which device are you trying to watch the games on? If you’re trying to watch on Windows or Mac, make sure you’re connected to the VPN and are using the ExpressVPN browser extension. If you’re on mobile, make sure you’re connected to the VPN and try to disable location sharing.

If you have further issues, please contact Support at https://www.expressvpn.com/support/#open-chat

  46. I recently purchased NFL Game Pass, to watch the Kansas City Chiefs games while overseas. I didn’t realize the restrictions on watching overseas, so I just bought ExpressVPN, hoping that I can make it look like I’m still in the US. However, when I try to access the games, I am still having issues. In theory, should I be able to use ExpressVPN to watch the games outside of the US? If so, do you know what might be going wrong?

  47. Hi Steve,

To watch in the UK, try watching the games via the NFL app or the Yahoo Sports app. Remember to connect to a location in the U.S. before downloading the apps and make sure you’re still connected when watching the games.

  48. hi,

i’ll be travelling next month and want to watch the nfl while i’m in the uk. what’s the best way to watch?

  49. Hi Allie,

You can try watching the games using the Verizon or Yahoo Sports apps. Due to in-market restrictions, make sure you’re connected to a VPN location that’s showing the game or the nearest available location.

  50. Hello
I live in Philadelphia but want to watch The Green Bay Packers games. How would I do that?

    Thank you

  51. Hi Jade,

It depends on where you are. Verizon (via the NFL Mobile and Yahoo Sports apps) offers free streams, but you’ll need to check if the Eagles are an in-market game for where you are. Otherwise, you can sign up for any of the other paid packages, just be sure to cancel before the free trial ends and catch any other games you’re missing on Twitch (for free!)

  52. I want to watch all NFL games via from my laptop or phone while I’m at work. If I purchase one of the 3 packages this will allow me to watch any and all NFL games? I especially only want to watch my Eagles. Please help!! Ty

  53. I want to watch NFL on my Vizio Smart TV and have a Roku player but no cable subscription. Will the purchase of the VPN allow me to use DAZN to stream the games to my TV?

  54. Hi Billy,

Not necessarily. This past season, Yahoo Sports offered free streams for the playoffs. Amazon offered free Thursday Night Football, while services like Sling TV showed regular season games and come with a free trial. With a VPN, a cable subscription is nice but not necessary 🙂

  55. So, are you saying that even with an ExpressVPN account, I will need to have a cable subscription in order to live stream any and all of the events I wish to watch?

  56. I’m from Philadelphia, but will be in Israel for the Superbowl. The hotel that I’m staying at says that they don’t have Fox Sports, so I need to live stream the event to my devices–my iPhone 7 plus and my pad, which is an Android. For the latter, I was going to use ExpressVPN and YouTube TV, which is what you were saying a few days ago. But now you are saying to download TV player and have a TV license. Do I really need a licence? How do I get one? If I have to download TV Player, do I have to select a UK server thru ExpressVPN? Will the option that you were originally suggesting NOT work, i.e., ExpressVPN, selecting a US server, and using YouTube TV?

As a back-up, I was going to use ExpressVPN on my cell phone, select a US server, and download the Yahoo Sports app. Will that work?

Please advise on both matters. Thanks!

  57. Hi there,

ExpressVPN helps you access the various networks used to watch the NFL. However, you will need a cable subscription in order to watch the actual games. If you need guidance with which ExpressVPN servers to use, please get in touch with the support team at http://www.expressvpn.com/support/ 🙂
